Two Shining prints in one month. After elvisdead’s take a couple weeks back, Oliver Barrett gets his crack at the Overlook with a new screen print for Mutant. Barrett’s work always carries this violent energy, and pointing it at Jack Torrance makes all the sense in the world. It’s brutal in the best way. Funny thing about this movie: Kubrick picked up a Razzie nomination for it back in 1981 and Stephen King still won’t say a kind word about the adaptation, yet 45 years later it might be the most dissected horror film ever made. Nobody tell the Razzies. The variants get proper names too, Redrum and Room 237, both pulled straight from the film’s nightmare vocabulary.
